Diversions series statement
Diversions is an on-going series of paintings that explore the themes of memory, perception, and expectation. One constant in this body of work is a belief in painting as a vital medium for telling meaningful human stories. This work investigates the viewer’s perception of the inhabited world; how humans exist in relation to their environments whether this is in confrontation or peace; and questions the significance of an implied figure’s presence versus a figure at center stage. These paintings use narrative as a vehicle for capturing personal memories, confronting perceived identity, and toying with expectation.
